News:

Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for justice: for they shall be filled. The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. Bless thou the Lord, O my soul. Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.

"The Dream of a Ridiculous Man" is a short story by Fyodor Dostoevsky, first published in 1877. The story unfolds as a confessional monologue from a melancholic, misanthropic narrator who believes his existence is without purpose or value. However, That night, the narrator falls into a deep sleep and experiences a vivid dream that becomes the centerpiece of the story. She is accepted into the quiet and remote country house of an uncle, who has almost completely withdrawn into himself after the death of his wife. Mary gradually becomes drawn into the hidden side of the house: why does she hear the crying of a unseen child? Why is there an overgrown, walled garden, its door long locked? (Summary by Peter)

AGelbert NOTE: Enjoy this story about Rikki-Tikki-Tavi, a clever mongoose among humans.

Quote
Genre(s): Action & Adventure

This classic children's book by Rudyard Kipling tells the story of Mowgli, a young boy raised by wolves: his escapades and adventures with his dear friends Bagheera the panther and Baloo the bear, his capture by the Monkey-People, his attempt at reintegration into human society, and his ultimate triumph over the lame tiger Shere Khan. The account of Mowgli's adventures is followed by several short stories, including the tales of the brave white seal, Kotick, and the tenacious mongoose, Rikki-Tikki-Tavi. Packed with adventure and Jungle Law wisdom, this book has pervaded popular culture as the basis of many film and stage adaptations, including the popular Disney movie, and through its adoption as a motivational book by the Cub Scouts.

Language: English

AGelbert NOTE: Mowgli's story is quite different from the hollywood cartoon version. Here's the first cartoon video of 52 videos out there. The baby Mowgli (which means "frog" in wolf language) was named by the wolves. Everything in this cartoon about his parents is not in the original Rudyard Kipling Jungle Book narrative, but the way the wolves saved and adopted Mowgli is reasonably close. Besides the "survival of the fittest" obligatory bow to Darwinain 🦍 Atheist Religion that the evolutionary true believing 🙊🙉🙈 intellimorons never tire of inserting, in almost EVERY narrative about 🐯 wildlife, for the purpose of 😈brainwashing children, the other 51 cartoon videos are fun to watch.

Psalm 52
Why boastest thou thyself in mischief, O mighty man? the goodness of God endureth continually. The tongue deviseth mischiefs; like a sharp razor, working deceitfully. Thou lovest evil more than good; and lying rather than to speak righteousness. Thou lovest all devouring words, O thou deceitful tongue. God shall likewise destroy thee for ever, he shall take thee away, and pluck thee out of thy dwelling place, and root thee out of the land of the living.

The righteous also shall see, and fear, and shall laugh at him:
Lo, this is the man that made not God his strength; but trusted in the abundance of his riches, and strengthened himself in his wickedness.

But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God: I trust in the mercy of God for ever and ever. I will praise thee for ever, because thou hast done it: and I will wait on thy name; for it is good before thy saints.

Genre(s): Nautical & Marine Fiction

Quote
By Jules Verne (1828 - 1905) Translated by Frances Sarah Cashel Hoey (1830 - 1908)

Edgar Allan Poe's telling of Arthur Pym's narrative is shown to be true as events come together that bring out clues that help Captain Len Guy trace the fate of his brother's ship the Jane; the very ship that Arthur Pym was on board at the time of his disappearance. Through the efforts of Mr. Joerling, the crew of the Halbrane is enticed to make the trip to Antarctica to search for any survivors of the Jane. (Summary from Wikipedia)

AGelbert NOTE: Except for the racist remarks by Jules Verne about his African American cook character named Endicott, this fictional narrative is an exciting tale of the valiant attempt to rescue the crew of a ship feared lost in the Antarctic. Many kinds of dangers on land and on the sea are faced with determination and true grit. There is plenty of pain and loss along the way. This story is not for the faint of heart.

Beautiful Joe is a real dog, and "Beautiful Joe" is his real name. He belonged during the first part of his life to a cruel master, who mutilated him in the manner described in the story. He was rescued from him, and is now living in a happy home with pleasant surroundings, and enjoys a wide local celebrity.

The character of Laura is drawn from life, and to the smallest detail is truthfully depicted. The Morris family has its counterparts in real life, and nearly all of the incidents of the story are founded on fact. (Summary by Marshall Saunders 🕊️)[/size]

Agelbert NOTE: This is a heart warming story of animals and people in the late 19th century. I learned much about the care of farm animals in those days and what a Check Rein on a horse is. Sheep really do only respond to the voice of their shepherd! Dogs, 🐈 cats, cows, 🐴 horses, 🐷 pigs and even 🐀 rats, are a LOT smarter than most people give them credit for 🤠.

Back then cow milk was not pasteurized. It seems the only requirement placed on milk delivered to homes was that it must have "at least 13% solids". I guess that was to keep people from adding water to it to increase profits. Kind handling without any beating, as well as keeping the cows clean and comfortable (i.e. Properly fed and exercised in a pasture, no loud or otherwise disturbing noises in roofed living area where milking took place, not too cold or hot, floor and walls cleaned regularly, adequate cow grooming to keep dirt, ticks and flies off of them) was the surest way to get a regular amount of disease free supply of milk. They would separate the calf from a cow after one year, so they could get milk from the cow for about a year. The calf was raised with sufficient nutrition (some kind of mash they made) to grow as healthy as if it had been given cow milk.

Even back then, farmers with a conscience who raised cows did not engage in the cruel practice of immobilizing calfs several weeks so their muscles would remain "tender" and they could be sold for veal after their short lives of cruel total restraint. Of course, as it is today, there were far too many people, farmers included, who cared nothing for the welfare of their animals beyond the profits they could extract from exploiting them. 😞

The central theme of the book is that humans who are kind to animals are invariably kind to other humans and vice versa.

Dear little Princess Sukey sitting by the fire—pretty little pigeon—of what is she thinking as she dreamily eyes the blazing wood? If a pigeon could review its past life, what she has of bird mind would be running back over the series of adventures that she had ere she established herself in this well ordered household.

Has she any mentality of her own, or are all pigeons stupid as has been said? Listen to her story, and judge for yourself. (Excerpt from Chapter I)

Agelbert NOTE: This fictional narrative takes place when horse drawn wheeled carriages, horse drawn sleds and steam powered trains were the main forms of transportation, but the hardhips portrayed are all too real in human society. This book has a happy ending. That too, is reality based, but for too many exploited and abused members of our society, a society continuously degraded by the morally bankrupt among us, no happy ending comes to pass in this, the valley of tears. Unlike too many Judges today, the retired Judge in this book has a ☝🏻 conscience, and he 🕊️ lives by it ✨. I post books like these in the hope that more people of good will decide to dedicate their lives to doing good by seeking and following the light unto their path that God's word provides, despite all the adversity experienced

And others 🕊️ had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment: They 🕊️ were stoned, They 🕊️ were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: They 🕊️ wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented; (Of whom 🕊️ the world was not worthy:) they 🕊️ wandered in deserts, and in mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth. ~ Hebrews 11:36-39

These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. ~ Hebrews 11:13

"My name is P u s s y Black-Face, and I am a naughty young kitten. I wish I were good like my mother. She is the best cat that I ever saw. I try to be like her, and sometimes I succeed, but most times I don't." From the start of this darling book about a kitten and her mis-adventures in the house and the more dangerous place outside. Follow her as she learns (mostly the hard way) about people, children, dogs and other cats. - Summary by phil chenevert

AGelbert NOTE: Because the 19th century word for kitty in the title gets censored to **** 🤦‍♂️, the link to the audiobook does not work.
