The images of the burning camp with people trapped in the blaze caused an outcry worldwide, adding to a long list of atrocities committed by the Israeli army in its ongoing genocidal assault on the Gaza Strip since last October.

‘Let Him Never be Forgotten’ – Sha’ban Al-Dalou Burned Alive in Israeli Airstrike on Gaza Hospital Camp

Sha’ban Al-Dalou was 19 years old and a software engineering student at the Al-Azhar University in the Gaza Strip who held the honor of being a hafith (memorizer) of the Qur’an.

Displaced five times since October last year, he lived in a tent along with his parents and four siblings in the courtyard of the al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah in North Gaza.

Until Sunday, October 13, when Israeli warplanes struck, setting alight the tent housing his family and the tents of several other families in the packed camp while they were sleeping.

Injured in Previous Attack

Al-Dalou was receiving treatment for injuries he sustained a week earlier in an Israeli airstrike on a mosque. He was on an IV drip.

It is that image that would haunt the world.

The bombing of the hospital’s courtyard incinerated those housed there alive.

Al-Dalou was among those trapped in the blaze.

His burning silhouette was caught on camera.

Al-Dalou and his mother, Umm Sha’baan, 37, perished in the fire.

At least four people were killed in the airstrike that night, and more than 70 were injured.

He carried a white flag, but soldiers still shot him

When my family of eight was forcibly displaced from our home in Gaza City’s al-Rimal neighborhood, Ramzi Abu Sahloul took us in, fed us and provided for us.

By January 2024, we had taken shelter at Ramzi’s home in Khan Younis for 45 days, along with about 300 other people. Ramzi’s home actually comprises two residential buildings, so he was able to accommodate us all.

The evening of 21 January and the days that followed were the most terrifying I have experienced in my life.

That evening, Israeli rockets ignited the sky above us. We received no warning from the Israeli occupation forces to evacuate, so we stayed put, but for two continuous hours, our block was repeatedly hit by Israeli missiles.

It was as if the gates of hell had been flung open. ... ...


What I saw next is a nightmare that I cannot forget.

The soldier showed no mercy

The streets of Khan Younis were utterly ruined. Snipers were stationed at every corner building.

We reached the end of the street and waited for the remaining families to come out of the building. At that point, Ramzi told us that he was going to return to his home. We urged him not to, but he insisted.

He carried a white flag, but the soldier showed no mercy. He shot Ramzi and Ramzi fell to the ground. Dead at the age of 51.

Ramzi’s son Muhammad, who is 22, screamed out for his father. A group of men helped Muhammad carry his father’s body back to “safety” away from the home.

When I saw Ramzi’s body, I burst into tears. His wife collapsed, weeping. We called an ambulance and his sons accompanied him to the hospital, though we were certain Ramzi was already dead.

The pain of this loss was and still is unbearable. Ramzi had sheltered us for so long, asking nothing in return.

Israel’s unspeakable horrors against Palestinians in Gaza continue unabated, emboldened by the complicity of international organizations such as FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football).

During the night, Israel firebombed dozens of tents of forcibly displaced Palestinians precariously sheltering on the grounds of Al Aqsa Hospital, killing at least four and injuring at least 70 - many of them critically.

Yesterday, an Israeli drone targeted children playing football in the Al-Shati refugee camp in central Gaza, killing five.

The day before, Israeli attacks on the Nuseirat Camp killed two more young footballers, both named Ibrahim Al-Jamel.

For ten days now, Israel has laid siege to northern Gaza, conducting an extermination campaign against 400,000 Palestinian survivors trapped there with no food or water, under heavy bombing, and no place to go. Israel is firing on Palestinians who try to leave, who shelter in tents, who try to rescue the injured.

Israel’s Gaza genocide has killed at least 42,000 Palestinians.

Israel’s massacres in Lebanon have killed at least 2,300. 

FIFA is enabling Israel’s genocide and massacres by continuing to shield it from accountability.

Today, thousands will protest the Italy v Israel Nations League match in the northern city of Udine.

At least 150 people have been killed in the new offensive in northern Gaza that began a week ago.

A new report by an independent UN commission of inquiry found based on its investigation of attacks on four hospitals in Gaza that Israeli forces “attacked these facilities in a similar manner, suggesting the existence of operational plans and procedures for attacking healthcare facilities.”

The commission added that “attacks on healthcare facilities are an intrinsic element” of Israel’s “broader assault on Palestinians in Gaza and the physical and demographic infrastructure of Gaza, as well as of efforts to expand the occupation.”

Attacks against healthcare facilities, directly resulting in the killing of civilians, including people receiving medical treatment or seeking shelter, constitute “a violation of the Palestinians’ right to life,” according to the commission.

“Such acts constitute the crime against humanity of extermination,” the commission added.

The commission also said that attacks on medical facilities providing pediatric and neonatal care “have led to incalculable suffering of child patients, including newborns.”

The commission added: “Israel has violated children’s right to life, denied children access to basic healthcare, and deliberately inflicted conditions of life resulting in the destruction of generations of Palestinian children and, potentially, the Palestinian people as a group.” ... ...

The war in Ukraine, as far as the West is concerned, is the proverbial red-headed stepchild. Ukraine is no longer the focus of Western interest. It has shifted to Israel.

Israel currently is conducting an illegal and unjustified war on Lebanon. The objective is ostensibly to destroy Hezbollah, but the Israeli military is too weak to accomplish that task.

In my conversation with the Judge, I reference the iconic movie, Exodus. Those of us who are 65 years old or older, were influenced by this bit of Hollywood propaganda. The movie portrays Israel as David fighting the Goliath of Arabs and Muslims. That movie, in my opinion, created a meme that continues to shape the perception of the senior citizens in America about events in Israel. But, the current Israel, which is under the control of radical Zionists, is wantonly killing Palestinians and Lebanese in a desperate attempt to take control of the Levant. This is what Ray McGovern and I discussed with the Judge today.
