News:

Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for justice: for they shall be filled. Mine eye also shall see my desire on mine enemies, and mine ears shall hear my desire of the wicked that rise up against me. The glory of the Lord shall endure for ever: the Lord shall rejoice in his works. He looketh on the earth, and it trembleth: he toucheth the hills, and they smoke. I will sing unto the Lord as long as I live: I will sing praise to my God while I have my being. My meditation of him shall be sweet: I will be glad in the Lord. Let sinners be consumed out of the earth, and let the wicked be no more. Bless thou the Lord, O my soul. Praise ye the Lord.

Could 🦖 Conventional Cars Be Converted to ⚡ EVs to Fight Climate Change?

As the world transitions to electric vehicles (⚡ EVs), what should happen to all the 🦕 gas guzzlers that will remain on the roads?

This is an important question because even if the U.S. achieves President Joe Biden’s goal of 50 percent new ⚡ EV car sales by 2030, many people will still be driving their older fossil 🦕 fuel-powered :( rides.

12 Reasons Why Tesla Should Offer A Low-Priced Vehicle

With a whole new line of affordable Teslas on the roads, the pendulum will swing more keenly toward a common culture of zero emissions vehicles for all drivers.

SNIPPETS:

Today’s event was livestreamed from the company’s gigafactory in Texas, with the advanced hype that “investors will be able to see our most advanced production line as well as discuss long term expansion plans, generation 3 platform, capital allocation,” and other really cool and important stuff. But the announcement of a lower-priced Tesla was what people were most hoping to hear about, what they were expecting to be the most exciting of all, potentially securing Tesla’s dominant position in the EV marketplace. However, this cheaper model was not a focus of today’s presentation after all . Let’s look at why it’s such an important piece of the puzzle for Tesla and for society. An economical Tesla would:

Open up EVs to new audiences: It’s still true that EV buyers are mostly male, high-income, highly educated homeowners. A new lower-cost EV could open up markets, such as first-time car buyers, college students, and city dwellers. By introducing an affordable EV, Tesla can tap into a new demographic of consumers who are looking for an affordable and sustainable mode of transportation.

Provide a great balance between affordability, luxury, and performance: Teslas are minimalist, designed to be as simple as possible. They’re also state-of-the-technological-art. Software is at the essence of Tesla’s unique infotainment system, user experience, and autonomous driving features. Tesla has implemented over-the-air updates for years, while other automakers are just beginning to attempt them. Few segment rivals blend performance and value like a Tesla, which is fast and fuel-efficient, offers excellent range, and handles like a sports sedan.

Increase competitiveness with other automakers: A new $25,000 EV could also help Tesla dominate the legacy automakers who are now fully committed to gaining EV market share. Initially reluctant to adopt EV technology, their offerings show potential for peeling off EV sales from Tesla. An affordable EV would return Tesla to EV dominance, with the side effect of forcing other automakers to invest even more robustly into EV technology and production. EV consumers would see a win-win here. ... ...

Enhance EV equity across demographic groups: The gift of cleaner transportation — better air quality, less noise, lower energy costs — don’t flow equitably to everyone. An executive order signed by President Biden in 2021 requires that 40% of the overall benefits of federally funded programs go to disadvantaged communities. A low-priced Tesla would introduce EVs to more people in less represented demographic groups. It should be noted that, even if a low-priced Tesla was to be made available, low-income households would still face additional social and economic barriers that cannot be solved by technology alone.

Benefit everyone: With lower priced Teslas on the roads, the pendulum will swing more keenly toward a pattern of zero-emissions vehicles on the roads. Tesla has, from the beginning, sought to build increasingly more affordable cars. As early as 2011, Tesla communicated about how EVs do not burn oil as they operate, equating to zero emissions. Even when upstream sources of electricity are considered, EVs are cleaner than ICE counterparts: if plugged into even the dirtiest sector of the national grid, an EV still produces the lowest emissions per mile traveled compared to other vehicle technologies.

AGelbert COMMENT: "A Tesla Low-Priced Vehicle would 🌞 Benefit everyone:"

Well, yeah. 🤠 That said, any reality based look at the price of the best selling four wheeled vehicle in the USA (plus the related stats in all industrialized countries, of course) requires an attitude adjustment among those who labor under the view that Tesla EVs, at present, are "mass market" EV modes of transportation.

The rich man’s wealth is his stronghold, and as a high wall in his own conceit. Before destruction the heart of a man is haughty, and before honor is humility. -- Proverbs 18:11-12

I like Teslas. I cannot afford one, by MUCH MORE than ten grand 😟. I am certain that the overwhelming majority of the MILLIONS Americans who do not own an EV, but would like to own one, feel exactly the same way. THINK about that, Tesla.

The heart of the prudent getteth knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge. -- Proverbs 18:15

Have a nice day.

Tesla Stock 🌠 Drops While Other Automakers’ Stocks ✨ Rise Following Tesla Investor Day — What Happened?

SNIPPETS:

The best explanation I can think up is that, without more evidence that Tesla is doing something bigger in the affordable EV space or with some breakthrough technology, investors think that competitors have a better opening or better footing in the market than they thought might be the case the day leading into Investor Day. ... ...

The best explanation I can come up with for why these announcements had no apparent effect is that they were already fully expected, and in the worst case, they were further back in the plans than anticipated.

AGelbert COMMENT: I hear ya Zach, but I think the PROBLEM Tesla has is the totally unwarranted Musk caused Obsession with costly "self driving" hardware and software. THAT makes the Tesla EVs LESS affordable, not more. AND, that also makes the COST of maintaining all those 😒 "self driving" sensors a 👎 consideration for potential buyers. The whole deal with an 👍 EV, outside the obvious fact that they do not pollute 👍, that you have taken great pains to correctly point out for at least a decade now, is that EVs are LOW COST maintenance vehicles, unlike the 🦖 gas guzzlers out there.

Elon Musk used to understand that. It seems that being a billionaire has hampered his ability to reason like the average person who wants to buy an EV.  Hey, we all want safe cars, but having the money to buy one, even if it isn't "self driving", is a bit more important to we-the-people than extra bells and whistles. Ford will eat Tesla's lunch with their F-150 Lightning if Tesla Management does not get that through their heads.

It is TIME for Tesla to look HARD at what potential EV buyers NEED, and stop entertaining Musk's costly "Jetson" futuristic fantasies.

SNAP OUT OF IT, Tesla!

$25,000 👍 ⚡ Electric Car Coming To USA? It’s Already Here!

SNIPPETS:

You don’t have to wait for the lower-cost Tesla Model C (or whatever it’ll be named) or the Volkswagen ID.2all (just a concept car at this point). You can go out there and buy a $26,500 electric car today and then save oodles of money not buying gas. ... ...

Chevrolet Bolt ⚡ EUV

The Chevy Bolt rose to become the 3rd best selling electric car in the United States in the 4th quarter of 2022.

Yes, there are electric cars with more range, faster charging, and more advanced tech. No one should ever expect lower cost models to lead in those arenas. The point is that you can indeed get a super cheap new electric car even today. And the 259 miles or 247 miles of range the Bolt EV and Bolt EUV offer is not shabby! That’s far more than any normal person needs. It’s also more than my Tesla Model 3 SR+ ever had.

AGelbert COMMENT:
Thank you for this info about the Tesla Battery-powered Travel Trailer. This qualifies as a 🤠 mini-mobile home. Put some MORE solar panels next to it, install a composting toilet and hook it up to water and waste water pipes and you've got yourself an efficient, environmentally friendly 🌞 house!

While the Zoning Nazis will have lots of fun trying to tell people they "can't park it in their driveway" because "we said so", this is not something every homeowners wants or needs, but IS precisely the solution to homelessness in the USA, IF our government taxed billionaires into funding the purchase of about 1 million of these mini-mobile homes to be given FREE to ANYONE that is homeless, along with rent free space in public land to park said homes PERMANENTLY

Of course this would require sanity, good will and a genuine desire by TPTB to do onto others as you would have them do onto you.

Unfortunately for people of good will, that is not the "GOLDEN RULE" TPTB slavishly adhere to with every fiber of their insaciably greedy Social Darwinist hearts. Theirs is the Orwellian version (😒 "He 🎩 who has the 💰 gold 😈 makes the rules.").

Quote
"The Golden Rule exists in some form in almost every spiritual tradition. In Christianity, it is known as “Do unto others as you would have done unto you.” (Matthew 7:12) In Judaism, the Talmud says, "That which you do not wish for yourself you shall not wish for your neighbor. This is the whole Torah, the rest is commentary.” In Hinduism we read, "This is the sum of duty; do not do to others what would cause pain if done to you.” (Mahabharata 5:1517)" -- Rev. Susan Hendershot, Interfaith Power & Light

All reality based humans, otherwise known as people of good will, KNOW that, if we want to preserve a viable biosphere, the Golden Rule is NOT OPTIONAL.

⚡ EX30: A Compact Electric SUV For The Masses 🤠

Volvo Introduces The ⚡ EX30: A Compact Electric SUV For The Masses

Volvo continues to charge towards its goal of selling only fully electric vehicles by 2030 with the introduction of the new EX30 at a launch event today in Milan, Italy. The fully electric five-seater compact SUV is a revolution for the brand, delivering a well-appointed vehicle that’s sure to find solid footing in Europe and around the world at the jaw dropping price of $34,950 in the US and around €36,000 in Europe.

“We know that price and cost of ownership is still one of the biggest challenges when people consider switching to an electric car,” said Jim Rowan, CEO of Volvo. “With the Volvo EX30, we aim to bring premium, fully electric mobility to a much broader audience, helping to advance and speed up the transition to full electrification that our industry and society needs.”

The Volvo EX30 Has Range For Days

The Volvo EX30 comes in a range of different build options, with the base single motor configuration boasting a range of 214 miles on a combined cycle, or up to 295 miles of range in the city. It’s great to see them distinguishing between the two, as the range that EVs can earn in the city is typically far higher than what you’ll see on the highway.

Moving on up the line, the single motor extended range build of the EX30 boasts 298 miles of range on the combined cycle and an impressive 411 miles of range in the city. For those looking for the premium all-wheel-drive experience or those who are looking for a more thrilling ride, the twin motor performance build pulls out all the stops. Its electric range on the combined cycle is 286 miles or 395 miles in the city.

This higher trimmed model really shines when it comes to power and torque. It boasts a 0 to 100 km/hr time of just 3.6 seconds, thanks in large part due to its 543 Nm of torque as well as its 428 hp. Power and torque figures drop down as you move down through the tiers, but even the Single Motor Standard Range EX30 is sporting a very respectable 343 Nm of torque and 272 hp.

Responsible Design

Volvo built its brand on safety and if anything, this focus is only accelerated in the digital age. The EX30 boasts a range of required preventive safety systems as well as new or more innovative solutions. The EX30 boasts Intersection Auto Brake, Oncoming Lane Mitigation, Rear Collision Warning, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert with Auto Braking, and much much more.

Underpinning the Volvo EX30 is a foundation of sustainable design and materials. About 25% of all of the aluminum in the EX30 is recycled, and 17% of all steel and plastics used in the EX30 are recycled. This is noteworthy, as it’s not enough to simply put all of our recyclable materials into the bin, but they also need to find homes replacing virgin materials in new products.

The new Volvo EX30 is a compact SUV, but has been designed to maximize the utility of its footprint. It has 318 liters of storage capacity behind the rear seats, which includes 61 liters of hidden storage underneath the load-bearing floor panel. This is something most combustion vehicle owners aren’t used to, as this area typically houses emission control equipment. Offering hidden storage is an excellent way to increase the security of anything in the back, taking it out of sight and out of mind for would-be thieves.

At the same time, this sub-trunk storage is a great place to store all the knick-knacks that live in your car with you full-time. This can be anything from reusable shopping bags to a spare umbrella or jacket. It shows Volvo is not just looking to repackage the vehicles and ideas it has sold around the world for decades, but rather the company has re-thought and redesigned a completely new generation of vehicles that carry its design ethos forward into the electric era.

The Volvo EX30 also boasts a frunk, though its diminutive capacity will have it relegated to carrying much smaller items. By default, it is home to a warning triangle and repair kit, and also boasts a removable load floor that separates the permanently installed items and the passenger accessible storage area.

Inside Out

The exterior of the EX30 feels like Volvo has pulled a few designs out of the brand’s playbook from the future. The smoothed-over grill is accented on either side by Volvo’s new next generation LED headlights. As an SUV, you’d expect the EX30 to be blocky, but seeing it in motion, the EX30 looks wide and sleek, like a perfect hybrid of a sports car and an SUV. This sentiment is further communicated with its long hood and swooped back windscreen.

The interior of the EX30 is minimalist and clean with a slightly squared-off circular steering wheel boasting buttons integrated into the stalks. Volvo’s signature center-mounted portrait display frames up the dash and is the home to most of the interactions with the vehicle. Very few, if any, other buttons live on the dash or are even visible.

The center display is powered by Google, ensuring a familiar look and feel to anyone who has used a smartphone or tablet in the last 10 years. It also means that new functionality can be added over time, including native apps, over-the-air software updates, etc.

The Volvo ⚡ EX30 Cross Country

As a special bonus, the EX30 is also going to have a Cross Country variant kitted out and ready to get dirty straight from the factory. The Volvo EX30 Cross Country brings Volvo’s heritage of providing cars with a bit more capability for those looking to get out into the wilderness moving forward into the electric era.

It’ll have more ground clearance than the stock EX30 and will have a range of new wheel and tire options with more meat on them to absorb all the bumps and scrapes the trail can throw at it. The EX30 Cross Country looks slick and has a special livery that gives it a distinctly different look than its more buttoned-up sibling, and even has skid plates on the front rear and side. A small hood-mounted Swedish flag serves as almost a smirk, hinting at all sorts of mischief to come when its tires hit the dirt.

We’re thrilled to see Volvo carrying the Cross Country build forward into the electric era, and can’t wait to see the EX30 Cross Country roaming the trails, exploring nature in completely silence. Order books for this less buttoned-up EX30 will open in 2024, with production of the new configuration starting later in 2024.

Flexible Financing For The Volvo EX30

The fully electric Volvo EX30 will be available for purchase or as a monthly subscription, which gives buyers new options and flexibility to both utilize the EX30 for shorter trips or even to take it on a multi-week test drive. The subscriptions enable Volvo to make more solid relationships directly with customers as compared to the dealership model, which forces it to rely on its dealers as the face of the company in a typical vehicle purchase or lease arrangement.

“With subscriptions for the EX30 starting at EUR 599 per month, we strongly believe this car will be an attractive choice for many customers – not just for our existing customers but also to those who are new to the Volvo brand,” said Björn Annwall, our chief commercial officer and deputy CEO. “That will allow us to create new customer relationships and boost customer retention over time.”

Volvo EX30

The new Volvo EX30 is available for order starting today in Europe and select markets. In the United States, interested customers can submit an interest form and they will be contacted as the vehicle comes to market. To learn more about the Volvo EX30, head over to its official website or check out the full spec sheet.

My Tesla Model 3 Depreciation and Musk FSD HYPE

How Much My Tesla Model 3 Depreciated In 4 Years

SNIPPETS:

I bought the Model 3 for $47,190 when all was said and done (see above). Being worth just over $20,000 today (at least, in terms of a Tesla trade-in offer), it’s now at 42% of its initial price. So, it has seen 58% depreciation. Interestingly, that is just a bit more than I was estimating for a $40,000 Tesla Model 3 SR+ after 5 years in TCO analyses I’ve dug up. We’ll see what the trade-in value is in one year (presuming I don’t trade it in this quarter), but I don’t expect it to drop a lot more than it has so far (which is one reason I lean away from trading it in now).

All of that said, that’s not quite right. As you can see above, $6,000 of that original price was for FSD, and as you’ll remember, the reason I was looking into this was because I could transfer FSD free of charge this quarter. So, actually, we should chop $6,000 off that price. That means depreciation was actually 51.5% … for this one quarter. In reality, FSD has not held value well at all so far, and my understanding is that Tesla doesn’t give it any value on a trade-in.

As you may recall, Elon Musk has spoken quite a bit about Tesla cars with FSD appreciating in value once FSD is robotaxi-capable … but we don’t know when or if that will actually be the case.

👍 Thank you for this valuable info.

Stefan
The depreciation of a car is not calculated using the trade-in value; it's calculated using the resale value, which is necessarily higher. Tesla needs to cover its costs of prepping, advertising, reselling the car, not to mention its profit margin.

AGelbert > Stefan
There is ZERO excuse for Tesla's current "profit margin". When I learned that Tesla greedball Kirkhorn  just left the company after being "😇compensated 😈" to the tune of 😵 590 MILLION DOLLARS over JUST FIVE YEARS (FOR WHAT!!!?? 😡), I decided that I will not even consider purchasing a Tesla until their "management compensation" is NO MORE than 20 times that of the average worker AND ALL Tesla workers are Unionized, PERIOD.

FSD is a Musk hyped up pipe dream. I will now explain why I have come to the firm conclusion that Mr. Elon Musk is either a bold faced liar or in need of treatment by a psychiatrist for Delusional disorder.

FSD in a Tesla EV is ridiculously overpriced and overhyped as some kind of "autopilot" 🙄. It is nothing of the kind, never was, and never will be. WHY? Because a true FSD Sytem would be too costly. The most advanced artificial intelligence (AI) supervised and controlled machine, to the point of having the authority and agency to override human input if human input is, according to the AI supervising software, faulty , is NOT what is in a Tesla EV; it is what is in a modern commercial airliner.

The AI on Commercial airliners, unlike the crude AI on a Tesla EV, has several levels of redundancy, but that is only a part of the reason airliner AI makes Tesla FSD look like a hyped up imitation for the purpose, not of preventing car accidents, but jacking up the selling price AND "maintenance and repair" of FSD sensors costs.

IF the Tesla FSD system was upgraded to meet airliner reliability, redundancy and routine required maintenance standards, only millionaires could purchase a Tesla. YEAH, airliners operate in the air, not just on the taxiway on an airport, making their AI more complicated, but the demands on the AI software are comparable when you consider that ground vehicles have to pass much closer to other vehicles and objects than airliners do.

The AI on airliners is, unlike AI on a Tesla, civilian government regulated. If it is not checked at certain intervals and if it does not pass checklist items before each flight, the airliner is grounded until the problem is fixed. Does Tesla tell you that you CANNOT use your EV if the AI is faulty or a sensor is down? NO!

Consider that FACT. THAT, in itself, tells you TWO THINGS:
1. You DO NOT need FSD to drive your Tesla.
2. There is ZERO civilian government regulation of the Tesla FSD AI system.

Trusting a MOSTLY profit orientated seller of a product, be it an EV "safety feature" such as FSD, or pilot-in-command overriding airliner AI, is imprudent, to put it mildly. The history of new government regulations on aircraft systems and maintenance after crashes gives irrefutable evidence that ZERO government oversight is a recipe for disaster. When GOVERNMENT DICTATES REGULATIONS on required redundancy, inspections, routine maintenace, replacement of parts when below a certain standard, etc., as they now do for airliners, to Tesla, and everybody else putting "FSD" systems in road vehicles, THEN you can consider FSD as a "value enhancing" onboard system. Until then, Tesla FSD is not to be trusted, either as a "FULL SELF DRIVING" system, or a "resale value enhancing" system.
